The internal keywords and the internal optimization that you perform on your Website or Blog contribute approximately 25% of your ranking. These are your onsite content based optimization techniques.

Some of them are:

• Title tags

• Body text

• Header tags (H1 – H6)

• Domain name

• Page names

• Meta tags

• Site description

• graphics and photo descriptions

These should be considered important but the other 75% is what the Search Engines use to rank your site for and can get your site listed on page one.

What Is It That Creates Website Rank?

What is the other 75%? It varies from one Search Engine to another but in Google’s case it is keywords. Keywords in links that are pointing back to your site (keyword loaded backlinks).

This is important. Having hundreds of backlinks will help your site get noticed and indexed but the valuable ones are linking for a keyword, or content on your site.

Remember that Google is indexing your content by keywords and links. It does not understand your written material and know what it is about.

Keywords on your site and in your content are only 25% of the battle for ranking. The focus has to be on keyword specific links pointing to your site to make ranking a success, because Google is looking for link popularity, link age, anchor text, link authority and reputation.

How do you get these keyword specific links?

There are several ways.

• You can use Squidoo, HubPages, Google’s free Blogging platform, and other social media sites

• Find blog sites that are related to your niche and post comments

• Join some Question and Answer sites and establish yourself as an authority

• Submit to directories, general directories, and niche specific directories

• Submit Press releases about your site

• Publishing articles on the hundreds of article directories

These are a few of the ways to create keyword links (keyword rich backlinks) to your site and all of them should be practiced.

Content continues to be the most important element but without ranking and the traffic that it brings your content will not be seen.

You should periodically submit your site to the Search Engines; some submit once a month and others every 3-6 months.

I usually use Submit Express (http://www.submitexpress.com) to submit my blog to the search engines.  Also, because of the constant updating, blogs get indexed faster (and stay indexed longer) than traditional websites.  This fact alone makes me a blog supporter and promoter.

And don’t forget to submit to the RSS feeds and ping whenever you add new content.

1. Know or understand how to get your own blog, or website set up
2. Know how to implement compelling copy onto your site
3. And know how to get targeted traffic to your site
