“Work From Home Jobs” For The Freelance Worker or Writer

Updated on January 6, 2010
The Work from Home Industry is thriving, and brings with it a growing market for Freelance Workers. There is a great demand for Writers, Artists, and Disciplined labor. And with the growth of the Work at Home Industry the potential for scams and fraud increases.
We have begun to compile a list of Online Job Resources for the “Work from Home” Industry. This list includes site’s posting individual Freelance work, as well as hourly and contract work, for verified companies.
It is often better to join a site that screens both the Job Hunter and the Employer. This can help reduce the opportunity of scams and fraud. We like to think the best of people but that is not always the reality with the anonymity that can be exploited on the internet.
Scammers and criminal types can be found in any Internet Industry that has sums of money exchanged for services. Be careful and cautious when dealing with people that you do not know, and if the offer seems too good to be true then it probably is.
The list that we are compiling will be changing as we add and remove websites and contacts that are new or no longer active. It should be checked regularly for any changes. Some of the lists lead to other websites that offer more available Work from Home Jobs.
Work At Home opportunities for Writers include Blogging, Article Writing, Editing, Technical Writing, Researching, Reviewing, Collaborative Work, Copywriting, and Data Entry. The following listings are primarily resources for Writers, but overlap Design, Graphics, Web Technologies, Programming and Information Technologies to just name a few.
howhub.com is a “how to” site that pays up to 100% AdSense earnings to your Google AdSense account on any ads that are clicked that are posted on our articles.
IFreelance caters to Artists, and Writers; Book Illustration, Website Design, and writing content for stories and websites. But it also includes Data Entry, Translation, Technical Writing, Editing, Engineering, Architecture, CAD Drafting and Design, Programming and Database Development. It is free to join and has many opportunities posted.
Associated Content pays for articles on almost any subject. With a wide array of topics, from specialized technical data to trends and fashion, there is a demand for every type of subject.
On Allfreelancework most of the jobs are for Writers and Designers. The list often includes Logo Design, Article Writers, PHP and Script Writers; they also allow job opportunities to be posted that are for marketing purposes and require a substantial payment from the Freelancer. Package Deals that require this type of payment should be avoided, and looked upon with a critical eye.
Blogger Jobs Biz posts several listings and has a nice layout. The listings are quite creative and tend to be excessively descriptive. As the name implies the job listings are for Bloggers or the Blogging Industry. At the time of this writing they had over 1700 jobs posted, although I did find some that were duplicated within more than one category.
Dream Studios pays very well. They are a prestigious company and are always in need of various types of writing talent. Qualifying for hire is more stringent than many other similar companies, but the rewards are well above average. If you are a prolific Writer and want to be in the company of some great talent then it will not hurt to apply.
Constant Content has a tier level of article payment. It is based on the rights that you retain or relinquish. They also send out requests several times a week and each Author is allowed to bid a project. The Buyer then has a choice of which Writers work is accepted. It is not always a guaranteed income, but it is a place to publish your articles in hopes that someone will purchase them. On an average each article is 400-500 words and pays $10.00-$20.00. The articles are usually in groups of 10-20, and for new or established websites.
Helium is an alternative to Constant Content and Associated Content; another place to write for pay.
FreelanceWriting.com is a site that is for writers, just as the name implies and gathers its jobs listings from other directories. They have a list of Newsletters for Writers that are full of information. The newsletter, Morning Coffee, contains job listings and is sent out once a week. The past issues are published on Freelance Writing.
Epinions is where Writers get paid to write reviews about many different products, services, and events.
Jobster is a Job Search Engine that lists many of Freelance jobs, primarily for Writers, but also Photographers and Telecommuters. It had 653 Freelance listings at the time of this writing.
The Pro Blogger website has many listings of various Blogging job openings. They also list other sites that place ads. It is a very good resource.
Bidhire is a free service that is free for both the Writer and the Buyer. This is unusual. Most sites charge the buyer a fee or the writer a percentage of the earnings. They cater to writers but also post listings for designers and artists. At the time of this writing they had over 2,400 listings.
Elance deducts between 6.75% and 8.75% from each payment of the final project cost from the Freelancer and charges a $10.00 fee to the Buyer, or Client. This can seem like a lot but they have such a variety of jobs listed and claim to have over 27,000 posted at the time of this writing. Their job postings closely resemble that of a Job Board, because of the diversity of jobs listed.
Flex Jobs probably posts the largest database of Telemarketing Jobs, but it also has a variety of others posted. It has received rave reviews and has a fee of $14.95 a month, or $49.95 a year, which is quite high considering that there are so many places that are free or charge by percentages.
We have to mention Craigslist. It has many listings worldwide for Freelance Work. It does have a reputation for scammers and schemers, but there are probably more job postings on Craigslist than any of the other referred sites. Just use common sense and caution and you should be able to separate any scams or deceitful offers from the legitimate ones.
The Guru has jobs postings that are in many different fields. They already have a very large amount of Freelancers, but there is always room for more. The need for talent in many different industries is growing.
Freelance has not yet opened in the United States but is operational in European countries; France, Switzerland, Germany, Spain and Morocco They specialize in Information Technologies, Consulting, Advertising, and Communications.
