Submitting To Directories

There are many types and kinds of directories to submit websites and blogs to. These are for getting backlinks and traffic to your site, they are free, reciprocal, or for a fee.
It can take one hour to months to get listed after submitting to a link directory. And, even after waiting for months your site may still be denied. It is normally reviewed by a person and not a software program.
Submitting to directories can take a lot of time, and many advise that it does not do very much good. I beg to differ. It is a long process and there is software available that helps to cut down on the time involved, both free and for a price.
Most like the word FREE, more than FEE. I have used both, and I have had as much success with free submissions as I have had with software that I purchased. A good directory submitter can be a worthwhile investment.
Just because you are submitting with a paid software program does not guarantee that your site will be accepted within the given directory, and submitting without software does not gain any advantage either. So, I use both tactics.
One free online service that is worth checking into is Kripalu Maharaj’s http://easysubmits.com/. It has many, many, sites listed that accept free links, without cost or exchange. It does take some effort, but if you just spend twenty minutes a day you can submit quite a few over a two week period.
I also use SeoElite, by Brad Callen. It has many excellent features and Brad has a good forum, along with very in-depth video instructions. It has been beneficial for me and I recommend it highly. The instruction videos and eBook are worth the cost. Brad definitely over delivers.
Directory Submitter, also from Brad and Bryxen Software, has a free and paid version. The free version submits up to 350 directories. I have also used this in addition to my other efforts.
There are other methods that I use and I will cover them more later. Some of these other practices that I employ can also help in getting listed in directories. For now, these will get you started and take little effort and learning.
Remember that Directory Submitting also sends traffic. It may not be a lot of traffic but it is quality traffic, because it is based upon your site description.
And remember 3 rules for online success:
1. Know or understand how to get your own blog, or website set up
2. Know how to implement compelling copy onto your site
3. And know how to get targeted traffic to your site

Submitting article can be good for building your blog’s authority and this means more people would trust you as a blogger. This is my first visit and I like to say this blog is quite good.

I am doing manual work to submit now. Lot of time taken. Really need to invest on automated one.
@ Jayce, Hi, some of the directories take months before they review your submission and then your submission may be denied. I know that is why so many do not utilize directory submission.
Speaking from my own experience the long term payoff is worth the time. When I submit a site I do not try to submit to too many at one time. I only spend a couple of hours a month or a week and that is it. I also try to submit more than one site to each directory, this helps save a little time.
Manual submission has worked out best for me. I have tracked the results and I have had better success in getting listed with manual over automated software. But, manual submissions take more time.
I create a list based on the semi-auto submitter by Kripalu Maharaj, and a few others and then go through them individually. You can also use his list and click the links to submit manually. By doing this you know that you are complying with each individual directories submission rules.
I also make sure that I have a minimum of five different site descriptions written prior to submission. Each one with different quantity of words (under 200, 200-250, 250-350, 400-500, and 500-700 because many directories have strict rules and requirements concerning the site descriptions.
Try to avoid using a lot of keywords in your descriptions. Make your descriptions sound natural and work a few of your keywords in like you would in and article summary.
Another trick that I have used is keep track of the directories that list your submissions quickly. I store these in a data base and then when I have a new site that I want to submit to directories, I submit to this list first.
Just do not try and do too many at once. It can be tiring and then you might procrastinate or give up and decide like most, that the benefit is not worth the effort.
I’m not sure of the value of these directories aisde from perhaps yahoo’s or business.com, botw.com – the big ones basically.
A lot of people would agree with you, but some of do not. I track where my site visitors come from and I get some good traffic from directories. Granted, it took some time to get the traffic started but it has slowly built up over time.
What I like about the traffic is that they are coming based on the site description and not advertising or article generated.
They tend to stay longer and read more of the content on the site, and they come back more often to get information.
Most people think that directories are only good for backlinks and SEO, but some of us that have taken the time and effort to submit to them know different.
It is a personal choice. I can not guarantee the same value for everyone, but the long term value for myself and a few others that I know far outweigh the effort in submission time.
People want instant gratification, and with directory submission that is never going to happen. It can take up to 6 months or longer to really see the benefits, and with more time it can get even better.
