Affiliate marketing is probably the best option for anyone to begin making money online and earn some extra income during the current economy. Affiliate marketing can have different meanings for many people.

Affiliate marketing in its best form is when someone, an affiliate, chooses to market a product or program as a secondary or third party. The product can be anything, from digital products, eBooks, dog food, hairdryers, insurance policies, multilevel marketing programs, investments, stocks, currency trading, to dwellings and real estate. It covers a very great array of items and programs.

The difference between a salesperson and an affiliate marketer is that a marketer can be a conduit for sales of more than one program or product at the same time. This opens the opportunity to earn on several levels.

Finding the opportunities and items to sell is not very difficult, but finding a market or customers for them can be, and often proves to be what determines the success or failure of the beginning affiliate.

Affiliate marketing can be very lucrative if everything is implemented correctly, with a well developed plan. The most important elements are the consumers, and their needs. Too often the marketers forget this and allow greed and ignorance to consume their attention.

The success of an affiliate marketer depends on many things, but crucial to success is having a well conceived plan in place. Develop a plan that is formed around the needs and wants of the potential customers, and brings them a solution.

Find a product or program that fits the needs of a group of consumers and you are halfway to success. This is what always needs to be addressed and remembered. If you are lucky enough to find a market like this and fulfill a need then you have succeeded.

When you find consumers that have a need the market place may already be saturated with affiliates and products for the amount of potential customers available. This is not always a bad thing. Sometimes if you search enough you can find a niche within the market that has been overlooked or has not been saturated yet.

The next step is to figure out your plan of how you will bring the two together, the customer and the product. This can be done in various ways, email marketing, online marketing, website creation, blogging, direct mail, and phone calls.

With my approach I always suggest online marketing with blogging and website creation to begin with. This can be learned in a very short period of time and once you learn how to do it is progressively easier.

It is too easy to get blacklisted for spam if you try email marketing, you need your own list or you have to purchase a list to be successful at this, because it is required that the people you are contacting have a need or desire for the information or product you are offering.

Direct mailing is expensive to start. Not only do you need to purchase the addresses of potential customers, you also have the high costs of postage and envelopes to take into consideration.

I won’t even go into the pros and cons of telephone marketing. You have to have the ability and the desire to be successful with this type of marketing. I leave that up to gregarious personality types, and professional call centers.

I highly recommend that if anyone wants to begin affiliate marketing that they find a need and try to fulfill it, they need to develop a plan and become familiar with the chosen marketing platforms. Try to think like the customer, and keep their interests in mind, supplying a solution to their needs.

Always read the fine print and the Terms and Conditions before making any kind of online purchase. And always do an Internet search of the company, or companies involved.

2. Know how to implement compelling copy onto your site
3. And know how to get targeted traffic to your site
